Modern cottage, completed in 2019, with amazing landscape view, for year-round use. For max. 6 people. Located on the shores of Lake Oulujärvi in ​​Vaala. 2 bedrooms, living room and fully equipped kitchen.

Stunning landscape view sauna. Both the cottage and sauna have breathtaking views of Lake Oulujärvi. New home shed on the beach with high-quality barbecue equipment, completed in 2020.

Pets are not allowed. The code of the key container will be given the customer on the day of the arrival.

Taikaloora Cottage

Idyllic year-round cottage (30 m2 + loft) for 1-4 people on the shores of Lake Oulujärvi, close to the services of the center of Vaala. The cottage has all the facilities and the package is crowned by a private beach with piers and a landscape sauna with a beautiful view of Niskanselkä. Pets are not allowed inside the cottage.

Possibility to use a rowing boat. Bicycles for rent. Good fishing and boating opportunities on Lake Oulujärvi and Oulujoki. The code of the key container will be given the customer on the day of the arrival.

The stylish Taikaloora Holiday Apartment  (finished 2019) is situated just beside the Lake Oulujärvi and close to services of Vaala. There is room for max. 4 people. Sauna is included in the price.

Villa Kelo Cottage

Atmospheric logwood cabi for 1-4 people on the shores of Lake Oulujärvi, only 4 km from the center of Vaala. Extensive lake view, private pier with swimming ladder and beach sauna with beautiful lake views. The cottage has e.g. well equipped small kitchen, TV, high quality gas grill and outdoor fireplace. Rowing boat. Pets are not allowed inside the cottage.

Price 120 € / day, 720 € / week

Guesthouse

 Cozy accommodation in double rooms in the main building of Taikaloora, about 60 meters from the lake Oulujärvi. Two rooms for rent.

The rooms are located on the 2nd floor. The rooms have a shared bathroom / shower in the lobby area. The rooms are equipped with refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave and TV.

A boat marina and beach are in the immediate vicinity.

Fishing

Spinfishing

There are a lot of dierent predator fishes in Finland’s waters, such as pikes or dierent kinds of perches or salmonides. Spin fishing is an efficient technique to outwit predators.

For trouts or salmons it is recommended to use spoons or wobblers which can be cast far away and sink easily due to their weight. During the warm summertime pikes are seen everywhere and they attack everything that moves.

The topwater fishing for pikes is extremely action-loaded and the pikes jump out of the water when they hit the lures. Next to Taikaloora is a hotspot for fishing perches.

Trolling

Oulujärvi is the fourth-biggest lake in Finland. Taikaloora has connections to many local professional guides who know every fishing hotspot. They offer dierent kind of fishing services according to their special knowledge and equipment.

Guides know how to catch sh. Be it a pike, pikeperch or trout, guides know where to find them.

On top of that, Oulujärvi is famous for the European pike trolling championship which takes place in the beginning of summer. In autumn, fishermen from all over the world come to Oulujärvi to fish for trophy trouts.

Summer activities

Rokua Geopark

Finnish heritage of the ice age, Rokua UNESCO Global Geopark, is a unique combination of geology, nature and culture on the northern hemisphere. Lake Oulujärvi and river Oulujoki belong to Rokua Geopark area.

The characteristic features of the area are the landforms shaped by the Ice Age: glacial ridges, pine and lichen-clad heaths, kettle holes.
There are a lot of routes in Rokua Geopark area for hiking, nordic skiing, bicycling and snow shoeing.

Northern lights

Northern lights are natural lights displayed in the sky, predominantly seen in the high latitude of Arctic regions. Auroras are produced when the magnetosphere is sufficiently disturbed by solar winds.

In order to see the northern lights it has to be dark and the sky must be clear. Chances to see them is high during autumn and wintertime. You can check the possibility to see northern lights in different areas in Finland here: www.aurorasnow.fmi.fi

Mushroom picking

The whole Rokua Geopark area is famous for mushroom picking. Especially penny bun is a common and very tasteful mushroom typical to this area. Moreover, chanterelles and porcinos are found everywhere. During mushroom season one can also nd a rich variety of berries, roots, herbs and nuts wich are essential to a healthy nutrition.

Bear watching

There are brown bears living in Finland Normally you are not seeing them; nonetheless it is said that many times bears do see you.

If you want to see brown bears you can take a guided tour to places where it is safe to watch and take pictures of these wild animals. Just contact Taikaloora to organize you this kind of experience.

Winter activities

Ice fishing

Take a cup of warm coffee or tea and sit beside an ice hole waiting for a bite of big perch. In Finland ice fishing is free for everybody – no licenses required. Relaxing way of enjoying the Finnish nature.

Dog sledging

Unforgettable way of discovering the Finnish nature during wintertime is dog sledging. Huskies take you to snowy forests where you can’t hear absolutely anything – just enjoying the beauty of winter.

Snow scootering

If you want more speed to your holiday, please discover snow scootering. You can easily drive tens of kilometers within one day. The routes are marked well in the forest so that you can try this activity with the help of a guide or just by yourself.

Nordic skiing

Another typical way of activity during wintertime in Finland is nordic skiing. There are hundreds of kilometers skiing routes to discover in Rokua Geopark area and also on frozen Lake Oulujärvi. There are nice barbeque places along the routes to relax deep in the forest.

Taikaloora is owned by Päivi Jylhälehto and her husband Terho Jylhälehto. They guarantee that you’ll enjoy and experience unforgettable Finnish nature activities.

Päivi is the creative soul of Taikaloora. She is a designer, who loves vintage-products and interior design. She also takes care of rooms, cottage and breakfast for guests.

Terho takes care of business and organizes nature activities for guests. He is enthusiastic in fishing and he knows hotspots in the surrounding waters. Terho will provide you with all the equipments and arrangements you need for your active holiday.

History

Taikaloora main building was built in 1950 for chief of the sawmill that was located in the area.

Taikaloora main building is design by Aarne Ervi, one of the most famous architectures in Finland. The main building is listed which means it can not be demolished because of its cultural historical value.

In 1995, Päivä and Terho Jylhälehto bought the estate and renovated it for residential and business use. Tourism activities were started in 2000 and ever since tourists have came back time after time to experience the idyll and a wide range of activities in the area
